| Harvard Prof Fighting RIAA Back in Court Tomorrow |
| Trial was delayed over inability to argue case in a RI court even though is a Federal case. The Harvard legal team defending 24yo Joel Tenenbaum from RIAA accusations that he made 7 songs available for downloading in a KaZaA shared folder will appear in Rhode Island Federal Court tomorrow to argue their case. Tenenbaum, a graduate student at Boston University, was accused of downloading seven songs back in 2004 and is being sued for $1,050,000 - $150,000 per song! The team originally traveled down in mid-December, but the hearing was rescheduled for Jan 6 due to the fact that Harvard Professor Charles Nesson, Tenenbaum’s lead counsel, was not admitted to legally argue in a RI court. Since then, the team has filed a pro hac vice motion for Nesson, but the group has not heard if it has been granted. In order to ensure action, Nesson has also secured a Rhode Island lawyer. |

| One only mysteriously prevents users from accessing BitTorrent tracker sites, while another also downloads malicious code and opens pop-up windows for rogue security software. BitTorrent users have several new trojans to be on the outlook for when downloading content from public tracker sites. The first is Troj/Qhost-AC, which has been identified by anti-virus company Sophos as having the sole purpose of preventing users from accessing public BitTorrent tracker sites Mininova, The Pirate Bay, and Suprbay. "Rather than surreptitiously redirecting banking websites (as some banking Trojans are known to do), this Trojan attempts to stop the user from accessing popular P2P websites by modifying the HOSTS file," reads the Sophos Labs post. It modifies the hosts file of infected PCs so that Mininova, The Pirate Bay, and Suprbay are all redirected to the local IP address 127. |

| There are reports surfacing that says that the RIAA has fired a so-called p2p investigator. Ray Beckerman says that they were being sloppy. The report comes from CNet which cites the Wall Street Journal. MediaSentry is a company the RIAA hired to, among other things, to investigate alleged copyright violations. The company was brought under serious scrutiny over accusations heard in court like not actually being a licensed investigator to begin with. |
